Why do I find this idea funny?
(And please forgive my crude mock-up of the concept.)
Maybe those of you who have been reading this blog for a while won't find this surprising, but it seems to be a pretty common occurrence that most people aren't the least bit amused by the non-jokes I find chuckle worthy.
Presumably the trend will continue in this instance?

A Few Quick Notes 565
-After yesterday's talk of a storm, today has been a surprisingly nice day so far. Maybe this will last?
-I am not sure if it is generally the case that whole wheat banana bread is as good as regular banana bread, but the stuff I made yesterday was good enough for me to eat about two-thirds of the loaf before dinner.
-For the nth year in a row I haven't managed to wangle myself an Oscar party invite. Oh well, I guess I won't get to watch America's second most popular live television event.
-Over the past day or so I've been in the process of convincing myself that there's a good joke about downhill skiing and the fact that it seems to be one of the few sports where you sit down and get machine to do the boring bits so that you only have to stand for the fun stuff. Kind of a 'just dessersts' scenario.
Maybe downhill skiing as a concept just isn't as ripe for humour as I keep thinking it is.
-Back to work.

A Few Quick Notes 559
-When I woke up yesterday it was close to -13 or -14. By the time I went to bed last night the temperature was hovering around 0. Today we reached a high of 11. You may not be surprised to learn that the snow we received on Friday is now gone.
-This evening I borrowed a bread cookbook from my local public library. Of course, I didn't even remember to consult this cookbook before beginning this evening's bread baking exercise (I ended up just going for a pumpkin/molasses/whole wheat/multigrain improvisation).
I may not be good a following recipes, but at least I am getting much better at making just one loaf of bread at a time.
-Listening to actors talk about acting is the worst, it's probably even worse than listening to pop musicians talk about what their music is about.
-Thanks to some inside info from my father about the relationship between meat consumption and kidney stone formation I have recently drastically reduced my consumption of meat. So far I have been surprised how easy this has been to do, and how cheap. If I learn to make it to foods more nutritious than rice it might even be healthy!
-Check out the hot plane puns the Judiciary Committe made in the title of its 2006 report on the Air Marshal's dress code.

A Few Quick Notes 348 (Addenda)
-Shortly after my last post I realized that there were a few more pressing items that I meant to include.
-For the past few weeks I have been thinking that I don't wear ties frequently enough. Yesterday I decided that to day would be the day I would try to slip back into the habit. By evening I finally got around to putting on my shirt, tie, pants, and jacket.
Basically as soon as I was dressed I decided to start preparing dinner. Of course boiling water and then eating food made me uncomfortably warm and I had to remove the jacket and tie. Later in the evening, when everything had been returned to its proper place on my body, I went for a walk. By the time I got back was incredibly hot and uncomfortable. I had forgotten that my neck would get sweaty while wearing a tie. I may try this again in the near future, but the neck sweat issue may be the deal breaker.
-A few weeks ago I mentioned I acquired a Twitter account. For the most part I don't really post much or have any inclination to post. Occasionally I am struck with ideas for a post and am unable to focus until they have been tweeted. Anyway, I had such an idea today.
While in retrospect it may not be as funny as I originally thought, I still think it merits a RT here. Anyway the post was: S brk h cn't ffrd vwls.
Do people get it? I feel that I should give people a chance to try to get it before I explain it.
-For the past few days I have been trying to reduce my beef consumption. Unfortunately this has been rather difficult as there are all kinds of beef-based left-overs in the fridge.
-A few days ago I learned about a CBC application for iPhones/iPod Touches that allows users to listen to streaming versions of Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, and television audio. The problem with this service, rather than the idea, is that the available streams are incredibly limited. St. John's, Halifax, and Montreal are all unavailable. Amazingly, Goose Bay, Inuvik, Iqaluit, Whitehorse, and Yellowknife are all available (though I imagine that their combined population may not be as large as even St. John's). More great attention to listener's interests by the CBC. Isn't it great that they provide the signals that are of the most interest to people with the least access to wireless/iPhone service?

A Few Quick Notes 319
-As it is dark outside right now I can't see exactly which type of precipitation is falling, but it sounds as though we have made the transition from mist to something approaching drizzle or rain. What has been most impressive about today is that the temperature has been steady for the last several hours, seemingly unaffected by the setting of the sun. If all goes as forecast we could be in for some thunder showers this evening.
-For the past few days we have been on the lookout for the weekly flier bundles that are usually deposited in our lobby. By about 9:00 PM tonight I decided that I would just head out to the grocery stores to pick up the fliers myself. Having had a chance to examine the fliers I am not sure whether the trip was worth the effort as there really weren't that many deals to get all that excited about. Maybe we will have better luck next week.
-This morning while I was drinking coffee and reading the paper I heard a knock on the door, which is rather unusual because one normally has to get through the security door before they can reach the apartment. It turned out to be the superintendent and a maintenance worker. It seems a leak had been discovered in the basement and they were worried it was coming from our tub. Fortunately after some examination in our bathroom and in the basement, as well as in the neighbouring apartment they were able to determine that the leak was actually coming from next door, which is quite nice from our perspective, though rather unfortunate for our neighbours.
-We are still in the midst of an election in Nova Scotia though one might know this if they were just passing through. This seems to be one of the lowest key elections I have ever witnessed, and doesn't seem to have really picked up steam or slowed down since it started. I wonder if people will remember to vote on June 9.
-It seems that I may have a way to have my hand truck transported from Montreal to Halifax. Though I didn't know it until today, it has been stored in a dining room since September. I get the sense that Steven, and presumably Nithum and their roommate, will be glad to be rid of it once and for all.
-Several days ago I started developing a cold. There are few things that I can think of that are more fun than a cold in the summer.
-A few days ago, while still in PEI with my father and Neil and Rebecca I tried to come up with a math joke that was a play on teaching how to integrate functions. While the original was a little crude, I think I managed to improve it a little today. The moderately improved new version is "Do Irish math profs integrate functions by inviting Catholics and Protestants to their parties?"
While working on this quality piece of math humour I came up with another wonderful joke, though this one is likely better spoken than read.
Q: Which Canadian federal government agency should you contact to locate you sister?
A: CSIS
Maybe it still needs some work.
It seems that a major problem with my joke writing attempts is that I just don't know what is funny.

A Few Quick Notes 292
-Well today was a bit of a bust as far as the predicted snowfall was concerned. By the time 5:00 PM rolled around we did manage to get a little snow, though things seem to have largely wrapped up before 7:30. I guess we will wait and see, but I don't imagine that we will get too much more snow this evening, though who knows, maybe I will be way off.
-Given that we did get a little snow, I thought that I would try to make a time-lapse video of it accumulating. What I found interesting in the resulting video is that it seems that the snow is starting to melt near the end of the clip, though this could just be the result of changing light conditions.

-A few years ago I broke my collar bone in a rather ill-advised, planned sledding collision. Since then, on occasion, my shoulder has made some strange grinding noises when moved. I was reminded of this phenomenon again today when I heard some noise coming from my shoulder as I was lifting my left arm. Fortunately these noises don't yet seem to be connected to a reduction of mobility, though I can only imagine what time and age my do to my shoulder.
-Yesterday, Neil, Rebecca, and I went to the apartment of their friends' to play a few board games. I was introduced to a game called Power Grid, which was pretty good. I also managed to get a game of Condotierre in, and somehow managed to win.
-For dinner we ended up going to a local Chinese restaurant called Mr. Chang's. All three of us were quite impressed with the food and the prices. Though I don't imagine that we will make weekly trips, I do imagine that we will return at some point in the future. It is nice to know that there is an inexpensive, quality food option nearby.
-The more I have been listening to the The Moth podcast the more I have been sensing its connection to This American Life. This week's episode of the The Moth podcast was the re-telling of a story that appeared on This American Life several years ago. A story by Mike Birbiglia was also recently on both shows. I guess this connection shouldn't surprise me as I learned about the The Moth podcast because one of its stories was featured on a This American Life episode.
-A few days ago my sister was kind enough to send Neil and I a link to Highlights' online joke repository. Boy do they ever have some gold material. Neil and I have been laughing about a number of these jokes since getting the email. Definitely check this link out if you are interested in quality internet content.
-I was shocked to learn today that the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals do not have the same owners. I wonder how they share the revenues? I also wonder how it feels to be on the Washington Generals, and how long people tend to stay on the team?
-Though I had to do in my living room scarlet runner bean population my bedroom plants seem to be doing quite well. Shortly after taking this picture I installed the preliminary string set-up to allow them to climb to my bedroom window. Eventually I hope to get these plants to climb across my bedroom window, and then back (though this latter trek may be wishful thinking on my behalf).

The other plants in my bedroom seem to be doing relatively well, though aside from the new corn and the thyme none have put on too much additional height in the past few days (though most have shown some form of growth)

The laughs never stop
Earlier tonight Neil and I were talking and I mentioned that 'Cameron' is as close as I am likely to get to 'romance.' Neil responded by suggesting that 'dyslexia' is as close as I am likely get to 'daily sex.'
