-The rain and grey skies seem to continued into mid-June here in Wolfville. I am hoping that at some point in the not-to-distant future things may take a turn for the better.
-The aforementioned weather seems to be negatively affecting the rate of growth of some of the plants in our container garden. As a point of comparison, the beans that we planted outside are about a 18 to 24 inches inches taller than the plants outside. The basil plants outside are at most about 1 cm tall while the plants inside are close to 5 cms and are starting to display second and third sets of leaves.
-On Monday Jeannette and I made the mistake of watching game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals. It seems that tonight we have made the mistake of watching game 7. As some of you may know, as things stand right now it looks as though the Canucks are going to be trounced as badly in this game as they were in game 6.
-I made a batch of hummus tonight and am quite pleased with the results. I think that the freshly squeezed lemon juice that I used may explain the high quality of the output. If only real lemons weren't so expensive hear I might be inclined to use them more frequently.
-My post surgery recovery is still ongoing. I am hoping that within a few days I won't need to continue spending a few extra hours in bed a day. This recovery process is definitely a bummer.

A Few Quick Notes 510
-For much of the day today we hoovered just above freezing. Then as evening came the temperature dropped and we started to get a little snow. Not surprisingly, this combination lead to somewhat treacherous conditions and plenty of black ice.
-Our Ultimate game this evening didn't go particularly well. Almost immediately we dropped to an 8 point deficit. In the second half things only got worse and we dropped to a 15 point deficit. Amazingly, we scored 3 points in the final minute so that brought the final score to within 12.
-I just made some very-heavy-on-garlic humus.
-For the better part of this afternoon I dealt with a major laundry project. In total I did four loads and then arranged three of these loads on drying racks. Unfortunately, it looks as though I may have another load or two do deal with tomorrow.

Christmas Bread Pt. 11
We are now down to three completely unbaked loaves and the cinnamon rolls that need to go in the oven. Of course, none of this can go in the oven until the two half-baked loaves presently in the oven are removed.
As bowls and pans have been emptied or used we have been washing them. So even though we will have made about 20 loaves of bread, rum ball, and hummus in the kitchen it isn't too much of a mess.
For those of you who are curious, we made about 12 batches of the recipe. It seems likely that next year we won't knowingly make a similar quantity. I suspect that about 8 batches worth of dough would be sufficient.

Christmas Bread Pt. 3
The bread is still rising, though I guess we are just about ready to punch it down. As my mother is not present I guess I will have to continue being in charge of the project.
I just finished making the hummus, a project whose remnants we are now cleaning up.
Maybe eventually I will remember to take a lunch break.

Christmas Bread Pt. 2
Well, she's getting her rise on, the bread that is.
Kirsten and I, after Kirsten made an emergency flour run, eventually added the flour, sugar, and yeast to the buttermilk and butter. Eventually we had two big mixing bowls of stuff that kind of looks and acts like bread dough and only about 3 cups of flour left in the house.
At the moment we are letting the dough rise. While this is happening I am working on some rum balls. Hopefully after I finish the rum balls I will be able to prepare some hummus.
Fortunately the bread does appear to be rising, though not particularly quickly and I am not sure if the bowls will be big enough to house the risen dough. I guess I will cross that bridge when I come to it.
I had hoped to throw up a kneading video or two but as I am not using my computer to make these posts I am not really sure how to get the videos from the camera to the computer. It is also not helping that the left button of the mouse is only functional about 50% of the time.

A Few Quick Notes 131
-If I recall correctly, today was a pretty nice day, at times warm and sunny. Unfortunately, it seems that I spent must of the sunlight hours either asleep or in a building facing away from windows.
-Speaking of windows, today I tried to clean the windows in our living room. Surprisingly, I went to the extent of taking them out and placing them on the floor so that I could properly clean both sides. The only problem with all of this was that our $1 window cleaner just isn’t that good. Instead of nice, clean windows, we have clean-ish windows with a white-ish film.
At least there was some improvement, as I don’t think that I could have handled looking through incredibly dirty windows all winter long.
-Today in my business information class the director of Concordia’s libraries addressed us. I guess this was on schedule, but I seem to have overlooked it, as I was somewhat surprised by his presence. Actually, I am pretty sure it was on the schedule; I just didn’t quite pay attention to his title.
-After class I made a batch of humus. Maybe in a few minutes I will get around to sampling it before I go to bed.

A Few Quick Notes 128
-Both yesterday and today Montreal has experienced flurries, though in neither case did these have any real staying power. As one might expect, for this to have happened the temperature is relatively low, though my no means unpleasant. Actually, I have not started to wear a hat or scarf yet, something that might be necessary if they temperature continues to drop.
-Tomorrow is a big day at the library school. Not only will the director of libraries be giving a talk about the future directions of McGill libraries, but this will be followed by a school wide mustache competition.
If you are wondering, there will be at least two divisions in the mustache competition, all-natural and artificial. As of yet I am not quite sure if I will enter or not, and if so in which division.
-Today, while at school, I had the opportunity to watch the documentary “The Hollywood Librarian.” Unfortunately, I wasn’t all that impressed. The film seemed to want to cover all things library and proceeded to do so in a somewhat haphazard fashion. The one element that seemed to receive little attention was how libraries and librarians are portrayed by Hollywood. I was glad that admission was free, though as one of my professors commented, it did cost an hour and a half of my time (which may have been a bit too steep a price for admission in this case).
-I had to go on a herbal tea run tonight. As it is project season I am up to about 5 or six cups a night.
-Tonight I made a batch of humus with a grinder that I borrowed from my mother. In the past I had to use a food mill and found the process to be very slow and inefficient. With the new (actually it is quite old) I was able to grind the chick peas in just two or three minutes.
