-Today was a pretty nice day, though at times we did have a few flurries.
-We managed to lose our Ultimate game by about 10 points tonight. Strangely, and I am not sure if it had anything to do with the my new sports goggles, I had a pretty good game tonight. Unfortunately relatively early on in the game I made a rather big diving catch and managed to make contact with the ground with my right elbow, lower back, and left hip. Presently my right elbow and left hip are in some pain. And, though I didn't know it at the time, my lower back has been scratched. I am starting to wonder when the self-preservation instinct will kick in and I can stop hurling my body at the ground in an attempt to catch something that is flying by.
I am also really hoping that this newly acquired limp manages to heal itself overnight.
-We are still plugging away at Doyle Pitches. It seems that CBC having banned key writers from reading us hasn't really slowed us down.
I am still waiting to hear when the Telegram article might be coming out, though I am holding my fingers that it will be soon.
-Today I spent a good deal of time slaving away in the kitchen and I am not sure that I have all that much to show for it.
-It seems that the Canada Games officially started yesterday. I guess Halifax will be a bit messed up for the next two weeks. As I don't have a car or many regularly scheduled appointments this should be too bad for me.
-Neil really needs to get his act together and start posting if he wants to do well in this year's blog-off. Actually, I wouldn't mind if he posted just so that I didn't look as though I was over-posting for no reason.
C'mon first year winner, get you stuff in gear and throw up a few posts.

A Few Quick Notes 440
-Today, like yesterday and the day before yesterday, has been quite nice. Actually, in all three cases I might almost say that at some points during the day it has been a little too warm and the sun a little too intense. I guess I shouldn't complain as the sun being too intense is certainly more pleasant than most other options.
-The Queen has finished her visit to Halifax, though as far as I know she is still in Canada. For the most part things seem to have gone well, though her presence did muddle traffic throughout Halifax for a few days.
-A week ago during an Ultimate game I dove and then landed on my fist. Since then the area of my chest on which I landed has been hurting. The whole feeling is sadly quite reminiscent of the time I broke my rib a few years ago. Thus, after almost two weeks of continued pain, I am becoming more and more certain that I did in fact break one of my ribs by landing on my fist. I guess the good news is that now that I am two weeks in it is less painful than it was in the days after the experience. Hopefully within a few weeks I will be back to normal.
-We have another Ultimate game tomorrow. Hopefully we won't be trounced quite as badly as we were last weekend.
-A few days ago I mentioned that I might try to post a few photos of the Queen. Obviously that didn't happen. Here is one that also includes many of the other bigwigs attending the Garrison Grounds event.

It was basically as exciting as this photos would suggest.

A Few Quick Notes 372
-Today (Friday) was quite nice. It was about 10 during the middle of the day, though it has not dropped to just above freezing. For the past few days the weather has been like this, which is nice as it makes for very pleasant walks to school.
-We had pork chops, couscous, and vegetables for dinner tonight. I know that Neil and I were both pleasantly surprised with how tasty and moist the pork chops were. I think our surprise came not because of any inability to cook pork chops that I might have, but rather because the chops were on the thin side (so more likely to dry out).
-My tobacco harvesting has really picked up in the past few days. At the moment I have 13 leaves drying, and a few more basically ready to go into the storage container. At some point soon I am going to have to start figuring out what I want to do with them (a thought that regular readers of this blog will likely find somewhat repetitive).
-A few days ago I made a batch of rum balls. Much to my surprise they have been quite popular. When I was making them I assumed that I would slowly pick away at them for a weeks until they were gone. As things stand now I may actually need to make another batch in a few days if I want more.
-It seems that the German Marshall Fund and Peter MacKay will be hosting a big security conference from November 20-22 at a hotel near our apartment. A week ago I had the pleasure of speaking with a local peace activist who was kind enough to inform me that protests have been scheduled for the conference. While I wasn't to surprised to learn that protestors would be present, particularly when I started to get a better sense of who would be attending, I was a little surprised to learn that this would all be going down within a few hundred feet of our apartment. I guess we will just have to wait and see how things go. Hopefully I will be able to snag a few photos or some video of the events.
-This morning when I woke up I discovered that my shoulder was hurting (I don't think it is enough to worry about it). I guess what surprises me is why this might be the case. What could I have done to myself during the night to have caused such a situation? Hopefully things will be back to normal by tomorrow.
-Today I signed up for a Google Wave account. At the moment I am not really sure if I will have an occassion to use such a service but it seemed that it would be better to have access than not.

A Few Quick Notes 344
-We reached 30 again today. This is now three days in a row that it has been at least 30 degrees or more. The worst part about the current weather is that things are getting more humid as the evening progresses. There is even a chance that this will all culminate in a thundershower, though as these have been predicted for the past few days without event I am not putting too much stock in the current forecast.
-Neil was teaching tonight so I did not prepare dinner. If I were to allow myself to grossly distort the situation and I would suggest that I felt like a domestic worker who had the night off after years of uninterrupted service, but I would never allow myself to do such a thing as I am nothing if not a slave to the truth (even if that truth comes in a slightly modified and manipulated form).
-Yesterday during our second Ultimate game I a player from the other team ran into me while I was attempting to catch the disc. I saw that we were about to collide just before the collision and was able to contort my body so that my point of contact was my left arm and shoulder. Fortunately for me and unfortunately for him, my opponent was unable to react in the same manner and ended up being hit in the chest. Though I don't know how he is feeling today, I know that I definitely have a decent bruise and a slight pain in my arm. Hopefully his chest isn't doing too badly today.
-I made it to my library carrel to put in a few hours of work this evening. The air conditioning alone makes the journey worthwhile. I think that I will have to try to head back tomorrow for a few hours.
-To help ratchet up our exciting score, it seems that Reader's Digest (the American one) will be filing for bankruptcy. Though this apparently won't mean the end of the magazine, I can't see how it can be a good sign. As the Guardian's story on the topic notes, they seem to have an aging readership. I have a very hard time imagining too many of my friends subscribing to the magazine, even if they would read it if they came. To be fair, I can't really see many of my friends subscribing to too many magazines. Equivalent online content seems to have superseded magazines for many members of my generation, or maybe it has been social networking sites that are taking the time that we once might have spent reading magazines. Either way, things don't seem to be looking up for print media (gems like this are why you keep coming back to Montifax).
-When I sat down to write this post I was hoping to have more juicy and exciting content. As the words began to flow it soon became clear that this, like the other posts, was likely going to be pretty tame. Sorry. If I come up with exciting, cutting-edge content late tonight I will do my best to post it as quickly as possible, until then you will have to make do with my rather low-key list of uneventful goings on.

A Few Quick Notes 292
-Well today was a bit of a bust as far as the predicted snowfall was concerned. By the time 5:00 PM rolled around we did manage to get a little snow, though things seem to have largely wrapped up before 7:30. I guess we will wait and see, but I don't imagine that we will get too much more snow this evening, though who knows, maybe I will be way off.
-Given that we did get a little snow, I thought that I would try to make a time-lapse video of it accumulating. What I found interesting in the resulting video is that it seems that the snow is starting to melt near the end of the clip, though this could just be the result of changing light conditions.

-A few years ago I broke my collar bone in a rather ill-advised, planned sledding collision. Since then, on occasion, my shoulder has made some strange grinding noises when moved. I was reminded of this phenomenon again today when I heard some noise coming from my shoulder as I was lifting my left arm. Fortunately these noises don't yet seem to be connected to a reduction of mobility, though I can only imagine what time and age my do to my shoulder.
-Yesterday, Neil, Rebecca, and I went to the apartment of their friends' to play a few board games. I was introduced to a game called Power Grid, which was pretty good. I also managed to get a game of Condotierre in, and somehow managed to win.
-For dinner we ended up going to a local Chinese restaurant called Mr. Chang's. All three of us were quite impressed with the food and the prices. Though I don't imagine that we will make weekly trips, I do imagine that we will return at some point in the future. It is nice to know that there is an inexpensive, quality food option nearby.
-The more I have been listening to the The Moth podcast the more I have been sensing its connection to This American Life. This week's episode of the The Moth podcast was the re-telling of a story that appeared on This American Life several years ago. A story by Mike Birbiglia was also recently on both shows. I guess this connection shouldn't surprise me as I learned about the The Moth podcast because one of its stories was featured on a This American Life episode.
-A few days ago my sister was kind enough to send Neil and I a link to Highlights' online joke repository. Boy do they ever have some gold material. Neil and I have been laughing about a number of these jokes since getting the email. Definitely check this link out if you are interested in quality internet content.
-I was shocked to learn today that the Harlem Globetrotters and the Washington Generals do not have the same owners. I wonder how they share the revenues? I also wonder how it feels to be on the Washington Generals, and how long people tend to stay on the team?
-Though I had to do in my living room scarlet runner bean population my bedroom plants seem to be doing quite well. Shortly after taking this picture I installed the preliminary string set-up to allow them to climb to my bedroom window. Eventually I hope to get these plants to climb across my bedroom window, and then back (though this latter trek may be wishful thinking on my behalf).

The other plants in my bedroom seem to be doing relatively well, though aside from the new corn and the thyme none have put on too much additional height in the past few days (though most have shown some form of growth)
