For quite a while I have been taken with the melding-of-celebrity-first-names phenomenon that we have seen with Bennifer and Brangelina. While I don't really care one way about the individuals, these guys can't divorce and dissolve these wonderful names.
What has surprised me about this phenomenon is that it has remained relatively limited. Only a select few celebrity couples have such melded names. Why isn't this more common?
To help popularize the phenomenon I have decided to help the process along by coming up with a few possible melded names for your other favourite celebrity couples:
Russell Brand and Katy Perry = Rusty
Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher = Demon
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes = Toe
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds - ScarRy
Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett = Lylia
Unfortunately my limited knowledge of celebrity couples limits the number of these that I can create. Though I'm sure that with these as a starting point you can all go forth and create your own melded celebrity names that you can then try to slip into the vernacular of the day (with the eventual goal of seeing them on TMZ or Perez Hilton).

Easy to misread or It sounds dirtier than it is
Earlier today I noticed that a story about Dildo had recently been published by VOCM.
Now, just a few hours later, I see that CBC is covering a similar story. Unlike the VOCM story, the CBC story has a headline that can easily be misinterpreted.
I have included a screen shot of the headline just in case CBC editors decide that this headline isn't one that will stick.

At least I wasn't off the mark
It seem that my recent post about the similarities between the names Raquel Welch and Raquel Walsh wasn't far off the mark. Through the grapevine/power of the internets a former acquaintance of Ms. Walsh has confirmed that the name was given in honour of Ms. Welch.
Though I have joked around with friends about bad baby names, I am surprised that people would actually go as far as giving their child a pseudo-homophone as a name, particularly when that child is likely to fail to live up to the well-known traits of the person after whom they are being named.
Maybe what is even more impressive than the fact that one person was named in this way is that it appears that this is actually quite a common name among the Walshs of the internet. Last night Jeannette discovered that there are all kinds of Raquel Walshs on Facebook, so many that figuring out who our Raquel Walsh is was not worth the effort.

Closet, but not cigarillo
I have recently seen a few pieces of incorrectly addressed mail for a person named Raquel Walsh. Seeing this name makes me laugh to myself as I can't help but think of the similar sounding name Raquel Welch. I have to imagine that Ms. Walsh's parents were thinking about Ms. Welch when they named their daughter, or that were the type of people who were so out of it that they inadvertently gave their daughter a name that sounds similar to the name of a 1960s and 1970s sex symbol. Anyway, I find this much more amusing than it likely is to most other people.
