Easier the second time

At about 7:40 AM on Friday morning I was started to think that my alarm clock was a reader of this blog, or at least my recent post about looking forward to the recent time change.  I was beginning to think this because, for no apparent reason, in the wee hours of the morning on Friday the alarm clock 'sprung forward' all on its own, and without any indication that it was about to do this.

Of course this meant that I ended up waking up an hour earlier than I had planned.  And because the alarm clock's time had changed I didn't immediately notice the change.  As far as I knew the tiredness I was feeling was nothing more than normal tiredness that is a result of staying up a little too late.

It wasn't until I was part way through breakfast that I looked at the microwave clock and started to sense that something was off.  Instead of saying 8:something AM, the microwave was indicating that it was still 7:something AM.  As the microwave has been at least a few minutes off for the past few months I assumed that it was wrong or partially wrong.

I was eventually able to figure things out by checking the clock on the coffee maker. By finding that this clock, which was not changed to reflect the Autumnal time change, agreed with the alarm clock I was able to finally confirm that the alarm clock was the problem.

The upshot of all of this is that it seemed a little easier to get up this morning at the new time.  Maybe that's because I slept in or maybe that's because my alarm clock prepped me for the change a few days early.

For the first time in my life

For the past few days I have been becoming increasingly excited about the upcoming timeshift that will see us have an extra hour of late-day sunlight.

While I am still not looking forward to losing an hour of my night, I am certain that within a day or two I will be so excited by the extra hour of sunlight that all of my recent sleep-loss hardships will soon be forgotten.

Why didn't I appreciate the good things in life, like extra sunlight or scenic look-offs, when I was younger?

A Few Quick Notes 519

-At the moment is experiencing an intermittently heavy rainfall. The only good news is that it is not too cold, actually it is almost 10 degrees outside.

-I am gathering that today is the day we 'spring forward,' but I have absolutely no idea what time it is right now. I feel that clocks in our apartment might be displaying three different hours. The worst part is that it is surely the latest of the three times.

-Last night we were able to watch Gushue play Stoughton in the first play-off game of this year's brier. Of course this means that we were able to see the measure for 1 in the tenth and Gushue horrible shot in 11 to set Stoughton up for the win. Bummer.

-Yesterday I finally made it to the library to pick up my prize for placing third in the library video contest. As some of you have guessed, the bracelet flash drive that I mentioned yesterday was part of the prize, the rest of the prize was a re-usable cloth bag. Of course, while we were picking up my prize Jeannette and I entered a raffle and Jeannette ended up winning the same two items and a $15 credit that can be used towards things like photocopying or on-campus food.

-I think I am now 3 for 14 in this year's RUTRTW contest. Yesterday's 0 for 3 run didn't do much to help my record.

A Few Quick Notes 408

-The streak of good weather continued through today, at least that is my recollection of things. What I have been finding most impressive about our recent good weather is that while it will go as high as 5 or 6 during the day it will then drop to close to -5 or -6 at night, which means something close to a 10 degree temperature swing in just a few hours.

-Not only is Gushue out of the Brier, the team that handed him his first loss of this Brier, Alberta, are now the champions. It seems that Neil and Rebecca, unbeknownst to me, decided to make their way to this evening's final game. Apparently they scored discount tickets from a scalper and had pretty good seats for what was, at least according to them, a pretty good game (even if Alberta did win).

-We managed to lose both of our Ultimate games on Saturday. This didn't really surprise me as the first team we were playing beat us rather soundly just a few weeks ago and the second game we were playing after already having played a game earlier in the day. It seems that we have one game left for the season/play-offs.

-On Friday my seed order arrived. I purchased some pea, bean, and tomato seeds.

Yesterday, with a neighbour/friend I planted a number of these seeds in small starter kit that I purchased a few weeks ago. I am already looking forward to this year's harvest. Hopefully I will be able to provide you with a few more details about what I expect to grow when I have a little more time.

-The time change has been brutal, and I don't think I have really even noticed it yet. Tomorrow morning is going to be incredibly painful.

A Few Quick Notes 369

-I guess today was a little nicer than I expected it would be, meaning that I don't recall it raining.

-This change in the daylight allocation is really doing me in. It is now bright in them mornings when I get up on the early side of things and dark early in the afternoon. I think if it was up to me I would have kept things as they were before, but I guess the 9-5ers are a slightly more populous group that grad students without many morning commitments.

-All three of us are watching game 6 of the World Series. The funny thing is that while we are doing this we are using at least three computers (Neil and Rebecca are in the living from while I am in my room with my computer).

-A few minutes ago I looked at the grocery store fliers for the upcoming week and was pleased to see that a few of my favourite products will be on sale, notably cheap beef, pineapple, and potatoes.

-My baked fries should be ready momentarily. Much to my chagrin, I ended up throwing the entire bag on the tray.

-The Yankees just brought Rivera in.

Well ain't that a bummer

Though I was hoping that I would be able to miss it this year, it seems that we have reached the time to 'spring forward' once again. Though I will feel the loss of an hour's worth of sleep for a while, I assume that the additional hour of sunlight that my plants will get will make it all worthwhile.
